The SCIAA Track Championships for 2016 was one for the record books. It was not only a special track meet because of the competition, but for the weather as well. Saturday April 7th started out with heavy rain, cloudy, strong winds, and trees knocking out power to the stadium. But through it all the SCIAA staff kept their composure and the day turned out gorgeous. The day stared with the Middle School runners, and this was action packed from the start. The Boys 100m featured two of the best sprinters in track this year, Terry Wilkins (Geeter MS), and Andre Gooden (Havenview MS). In the A Divisions Terry won the 100m and 200m in dramatic fashion, whereas Andre left no doubt in the spectators minds in the 100m and 200m that he was the best. Two young ladies from Middle School that had well rounded performances were Serena Lee (Bellevue MS) and Ashley Slater (Ridgeway MS). These two young ladies not only ran well, but they performed well in the Field Events too. After the Middle Schools were done the High Schools continued to keep the excitement going.  Westwood’s Booker Williams didn’t let the fans down in the 100m and 200m dashes. Booker electrified spectators and other participants with his lightning speed. Central’s Boys team dominated the AAA division in every facet and Mitchell’s Boys Team did the same in the A-AA division. Mitchell’s Girls Team dominated the A-AA division accompanied by a stellar individual performance by Dominique Chatman. If Dominique was in it, she won it! The battle of the day came from the Girls AAA division featuring the Southwind Lady Jaguars and the Whitehaven Lady Tigers. Both teams battled for first place, but the Lady Jaguars acquired more first place wins than the Lady Tigers. Southwinds’ Angelica Lightfoot and her relay teammates were awesome for the Jaguars. The performance of Kierra Rhodes from Whitehaven was eye-catching as she triumphed over every opponent she faced.  The Middle School A Division Champions were the Bobcats of Bellevue Boys and Girls teams. The Middle School AA Division was earned by the Spartans of Whitestation Boys and Girls teams. In the High School A-AA Division the Tigers of Mitchell won the Boys and Girls divisions. The Boys team of the Central Warriors won the Boys category and the Lady Jaguars of Southwind won the Girls division.
